Something Blue – A Rustic Backyard Wedding

An intimate rustic backyard wedding was the theme for this charming day. Backyard weddings are gaining in popularity as more and more couples want to pull back on the amount of guests that they have and keep things more intimate, where they get to say “I Do” in front of their closest family and friends only. Hosting it in the backyard gives the wedding an even more personal touch, especially if hosted in a family members’ home. Just because it is smaller though, doesn’t mean you don’t get to go all out with the design. In fact, with less guests, more can be spent on the décor and vibe of the party.

The Eventful Special Touches:

  • Wedding theme concept and design including colors and textures
  • Hand-made mason jar vases
  • Table Décor
  • Lemon and Blueberry Macaroons
  • Rope wrapped candles
  • Drink station
  • Framed menus

The look for this wedding was simply rustic. The elements that most brought that to life was the use of the burlap, rope and lace. The main color was a rich blue, which complimented the natural elements and the delicacy of the lace perfectly. The décor was heavily focus on the table centerpieces, with the head table being the highlight.

Burlap and lace table runners were placed on top of the blue linens. Over the runners was an array of candles, decorative balls that were covered in rope and feathers, candles and hand-made Mason jar vases that were filled with white and yellow flowers and framed menus. The big highlight of course was the plate of Lemon and Blueberry Macaroons that were also personally made by the ladies at Eventful Moment. The colors worked so well with the rest of the design motif and who wouldn’t be excited to have a delicate sweet treat waiting for them at the table. Plain white and blue plates were used with white linen napkins that were beautifully inserted into vintage cutlery themed napkin rings. Hanging above the center table were white lanterns that perfected the look. A drinks table was also made with refreshing lemonade and mason jars with tags attached for guests to write their name.

The Gift Cups

The main design focus was placed on the dessert table. The time at the location, The Great Escape in Langley, BC, was limited and a fast set up was essential so the dessert table was used as the focus of the party for this reason. The dessert table consisted of Elmo and Cookie Monster Cupcakes (made by Michelle of Eventful Moment) and tubs filled with different types of candy and gummies. The personally crafted Elmo bags were used to put their candy bar choices.

For the tables, a rainbow colored strip was run across the middle, with Sesame Street centerpieces giving it the finishing touch.

For the gift bags, Kai’s mother Maria wanted it to be primarily school supplies since the party was held about a week before school started up again. Cups with “My name is” printed on were personalized with each guests name and the cups were filled with crayons, pencils, erasers and some fun play dough, glow sticks and a pixie stick for a bit of sweetness. Then a “Thank You” stick was inserted in. Please feel free to use our Sesame Street themed Thank You tag for your next party!
